User Testing/Analytics
Using empathy to understand the audience/user group is the number one tool in the designers skillset. The best way to build this empathy is spending time with them or digging into data analytics to understand their pain points, habits and what excites them.

Being part of a great product team is my favorite part of my job. The designers role is to sit between the business (product) and the dev team to translate business goals into reality.
